Joshua Barnhart

Josh Barnhart grew up in San Luis Obispo, California. After spending several years as a touring musician, they attended community college and then received a BA in English from UC Berkeley with a minor in Creative Writing. Josh was in the first Sligo Scholars cohort in 2017 and is thrilled to remain a part of this community. They are currently in Portland, OR, having recently completed a poetry MFA at Oregon State University. A longtime musician, Josh performs under the name Strange Pilgrim. Their poetry often explores family history, identity, touring life, and California’s landscape. Josh enjoys wandering in the woods, writing poems and songs, and going on long camping road trips.
Guiying (Angel) Zhong

Guiying (Angel) Zhong (she/they) grew up in the Bay Area. She is currently in her fourth and final (fingers-crossed) year at University of the Pacific (UOP) in Stockton, CA, where she is majoring in Psychology and English with minors in Writing and Ethnic Studies. Throughout their years at Pacific, Angel has been heavily involved in undergraduate student government, of which she is now the President. She has also served as a psychology research/teaching assistant, the President of the English Honor Society, and the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Pacific’s student-run literary and arts magazine, Calliope. At the moment, Angel is applying to doctoral programs in psychology with the hopes of becoming a professor in the future.
